Watch this page for upcoming trainings including get to know your Jeep, trail etiquette, trail recovery, and more.

Basic Essentials

  • Fire Extinguisher. ABC dry powder extinguishers are usually recommended  as the best car fire extinguisher.
  • First Aid kit. Bandages, adhesive tape, antibiotic ointment, gauze pads, pain  relief, and common first aid items
  • FRS/GMRS Radio. FRS (Family Radio Service) and GMRS (General  Mobile Radio Service) share the same 22 channels, but GMRS has an  additional 8 repeater channels. Note some older FRS radios may only have  14 channels available.
  • Gloves. Heavy-duty work gloves to protect your hands during recovery or  repair.
  • Tire Jack and Lug Nut Wrench. The stock Jeep Wrangler "scissor" jack lifts  approximately 3.5 inches.  This is sufficient for most stock tires, but may  not be adequate for larger tires.
  • Flashlight or Headlamp.

Basic Recovery Gear

  • Recovery Straps (Tow Strap or Kinetic Rope), 20-30 ft, 20,000–30,000 lbs  rating.Kinetic ropes are better for snatch recovery; tow straps are more  static.
  • D-Shackles / Bow Shackles / Soft Shackles. Soft shackles are lighter and  safer, but metal ones are still common.

Basic Tools

  • Jumper Cables or Jump Starter.

Additional Recovery Gear

  • Winch. 8,000–12,000 lb winch with synthetic line or steel cable.
  • Tree Saver Strap. Protects trees and helps anchor a winch.
  • Snatch Block / Recovery Pulley. Doubles winch pulling power and changes  the direction of pull.
  • Recovery Damper / Winch Blanket. Helps weigh down the winch line in  case of snapback.

Additional Tools

  • Tire Repair Kit. Plug kits, valve stems, and deflators.
  • Hi-Lift Jack. Can lift or winch your Jeep in a pinch. Requires training to use  safely.
  • Bottle Jack or Hydraulic Jack (with base). More stable option than a Hi-Lift  for tire changes.
  • Shovel. Collapsible or full-sized for digging out tires or anchors.
  • Air Compressor. To air up after airing down for trails. Look for ones rated  for off-road tires

Additional Safety and Comfort Essentials
