We’ll visit Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg from July 13-16, staying in Sevierville.
While in Pigeon Forge you are free to join up with us or do your own thing. Here is what we have planned: a drive to Clingmans Dome, Roaring Fork, Cades Cove, Parson’s Branch, and Tail of the Dragon. We’ll also visit museums like the Titanic Museum, Alcatraz Museum, and Anakeesta Park. In Gatlinburg, we’ll explore some shine shops.
From July 16-19, we’ll be at Windrock, staying in Oliver Springs.
This trip won’t be guided like the SOR trips. You can download maps from their website or buy paper maps at the general store. While Windrock is easy to navigate, it’s recommended to have some form of navigation, we didn’t see anyone except when we entered from the main entrance by the general store (side note: they check for alcohol in coolers). It’s a good idea to research and map out your desired trails before the trip to avoid getting stuck on a difficult trail. Service was sketchy, so another form of communication may be helpful. As always, we don’t recommend wheeling alone!
Link to purchase your permits and download the map (access to the map for 1 year is $20 via the app, the paper map was $7 in the general store last year) 1 review stated the app doesn’t naturally move with you, you must move your location yourself- that review was 1 year ago and it could have since been resolved.
